Soft Tissue

Since 2017 we have been taking soft tissue referrals form practices across East Anglia.

Thoracotomy:

Thoracotomy, either intercostal or mediastinal in approach is performed (depending on indication) to explore the thoracic cavity and surgically manage thoracic diseases including vascular anomalies, mediastinal, pulmonary and cardiac diseases in both dogs and cats.

Surgical Oncology:

Surgical oncology is utilised for diagnosing and treating tumours, with focus on the removal of localised tumours, providing palliative care for inoperable cases, and performing biopsies for accurate diagnosis. Surgical procedures can also aid in staging cancer, which is vital for planning further treatment options. Often part of a multimodal treatment approach, surgery may be combined with chemotherapy or radiation to target residual cancer cells.

BOAS:

Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS) surgery aims at improving anatomical abnormalities in brachycephalic breeds. Common procedures include widening the nostrils (rhinoplasty), shortening the soft palate (staphylectomy), removing the tonsils (tonsillectomy) and laryngeal sacculectomy in indicated cases. These interventions aim to improve airflow, reduce the risk of developing respiratory distress and the incidence of obstructive events, and significantly improve the quality of life for affected dogs.

TECA:

A Total Ear Canal Ablation (TECA) operation involves surgically removing the entire ear canal in dogs and cats with chronic ear disease, severe infections, or tumours. This procedure alleviates pain, prevents recurrence of infections, and improves the animal's quality of life by addressing chronic discomfort.

In addition to the above we routinely take referrals for anal sacculectomy, urogenital procedures, biopsies, lumpectomies, hernias, complex wound management / reconstruction and management of acute abdomens including septic peritonitis, enterotomies, enterectomies, splenectomy, cholecystectomy, liver lobe resection and vascular anomalies.
